After hearing about the number of homeless students in the Janesville School District, a service officer at the Janesville VFW decided something needed to be done.
Senior Vice Commander Peter Pemrich says service officer Tim Allen wanted to do more for the kids and came up with the idea to donate to the schools with gift cards to Walmart and local restaurants.
Pemrich says they were able to donate $3,000 in Walmart gifts cards and $500 in restaurant cards to both Janesville Parker and Janesville Craig.
Pemrich says they’ll continue to make donations like this in the future, and the next time they might make a donation to the district’s middle or elementary schools.
