A team with the Leadership Development Academy of Rock County is hoping to put signs up in Janesville playgrounds and parks to help non-verbal students communicate better.

Team member Sarah Vold says Augmentative and Alternate Communication boards can be comprised of pictures, words, or symbols which can be put together so someone can better understand what some one is trying to say.

Fellow team member Melissa Whitmer says they are hoping to raise $15,000, which would be enough money to put boards up at all Janesville elementary school playgrounds and four parks around the city.

People can donate to the cause by visiting the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin website.
