“Fall back” also means prepare for winter

Part of changing our clocks back this weekend should include checking our winter season preparedness according to the Rock County Emergency Management Coordinator.   Sheriff's Sergeant Shena Kohler says fresh batteries for smoke and carbon monoxide detectors should be at the top of the list. Statistics from Wisconsin Emergency Management shows 450 state residents a year end up in the hospital with carbon monoxide poisoning, and three out of five residential fire deaths happen in homes without properly working smoke alarms.  Kohler also advises using the time change as a reminder to have your furnace or wood-burning stove inspected, as well as review preparedness kits for both the home and car.
