Man who shot himself during traffic stop was Janesville teacher under investigation

The man who shot himself during a traffic stop Saturday night was a Janesville School District teacher and coach who was under investigation for having inappropriate contact with two students.

Janesville Police Chief David Moore says 30-year-old Justin Long was a teacher at Franklin Middle School and a tennis coach at Parker and Craig High Schools.

Moore says Long was accused of sending a photo of his genitals to one student, and kissing another. Both students are females who who were under 18 years of age.

After receiving the initial report officers conducted a search warrant on Long’s home, and interviewed him at the police station, where he admitted to some of the allegations.

Later that night Long shot himself as officers attempted to pull over his vehicle on North Wright Road.
