An improperly discarded cigarette is being blamed for an early morning fire on Janesville’s south side. Firefighters say they were called to a home in the 1300 block of Bunting Lane about 3:30 a.m. A police officer had already extinguished the fire when they arrived. Officials say the cause appears to be a cigarette discarded in a flower pot, which ignited a deck several hours later.
