Janesville fire officials issue warning about open burning

With the popularity of leaf burning and campfire pits growing this time of year, the Janesville Fire Department is fielding more complaint calls.  Fire officials say open burning is prohibited in the city, but use of commercially-manufactured portable wood-burning campfire pits are permitted, but with limitations.  They must be supervised by an adult, have screens and lids, be at least 25-feet away from any wooden structure, can’t be used in high winds, and have a water hose or extinguisher near-by.  The fire department is also asking those using these wood burning pits to be conscientious of their neighbors.
