The Rock County Sheriff’s Office is very aware the use of methamphetamine in the state may have tripled over the last five-years, and officials say they take these reports very seriously. Commander Troy Knutson says Rock County has enjoyed a bit of a break so far, with more problems developing to the east and west of the county. He calls “meth” an incredibly dangerous drug, and that’s why investigations often take priority over some other cases. Heroin abuse may have been grabbing the headlines, but the number of methamphetamine cases, submitted to the state crime lab, has increased more than twice as fast as heroin over the last five-years. The FBI and Department of Justice say western Wisconsin and rural areas have been harder hit, likely because they don’t have as many resources to investigate the problem.
