Saturday, February 18, 2017, the first-ever Stay Safe Workshop for Craig High School senior girls and their mothers (or other important women in their lives) will be held. The purpose of the event is to provide young women with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves from crime as they prepare to leave high school.

The free three-hour workshop will include sessions on self-defense, safety awareness, and identity and financial safety. The self-defense portion is based upon the S.A.F.E. Program from the National Self-Defense Institute. S.A.F.E. stands for Self-defense, Awareness, Familiarization, and Exchange. S.A.F.E. is led by police officers and is designed to educate women on protecting themselves from crime through physical training methods. Additionally, participants will learn about protecting themselves online and in financial interactions through a curriculum developed by the Hedberg Public Library and Craig educators and students.

The project is a collaboration of the American Association of University Wome, the Janesville Police Department, the School District of Janesville, Craig High School, Craig Parent Teacher Organization, and Hedberg Public Library.
