Janesville Performing Arts Center hosts events for children and families

Prepare to be amazed as the Janesville Performing Arts Center’s presents:  John Measner, magician extraordinaire!   A man of talent, wit and charm, John delights audiences everywhere, …from small children to grandparents, families to business people. He is a classically trained magician and skilled manipulator with many mystifying illusions.  John has performed on Chicago’s own “Bozo Show,” cable TV talk shows and dazzled audiences at popular festivals.  He will thrill you with everything from card-and-coin magic to illusions such as Houdini’s famous Metamorphosis. Culver’s of Janesville and Newville are the proud sponsors of this event and they encourage you to bring the whole family to JPAC on Saturday, March 4, at 2pm Tickets are $5 for general admission and can be purchased online or at JPAC, Voigt Music and Knapton Musik Knotes, in Janesville.

Calling all singers and musicians ages 9-18 to perform in JPAC’s third annual Young Talent Cabaret. Vocal and instrumental soloists, duets, or small groups are encouraged to participate. The event will take place Friday, March 31 on the historic JPAC stage.  Performers are limited to 2 musical selections.  Music can be from any genre, but must be family friendly.  JPAC reserves the right to refuse any material deemed inappropriate. A piano and accompanist will be provided for the event. Interested performers must email JPAC’s Education/Outreach Coordinator, Jim McCulloch, at jim@janesvillepac.org or call (608) 758-0297 ext. 5 to get registered.  Registration is free and the deadline is Friday, March 10.  Tickets to the performance will cost $12 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under. All proceeds from the performance will fund JPAC’s Education/ Outreach program.

Register now to become a JPAC KID!  Spring classes start March 13th and meet once a week for 8 weeks.  Tuition is $52 per class.   Each class will participate in a short performance at the Music and Drama Festival on Tuesday, May 9, at 7pm on the historic JPAC stage!  All tickets are $5. Courses currently being offered are: “Out of the Wing” for Grades 3-5 and “It’s Showtime” for Grades 6 and up. Actors will get the full acting experience in this production classes as they hone audition techniques, physical characterization, movement for the actor, stage direction, improvisation, pantomime, voice, diction and scene work. “Sing Out!” is for Grades 1-2. Students in this pre-choir singing class will gain self-confidence while learning the basics of a musical performance including: sight reading, stage presence, and group singing.  The registration deadline for all classes is March 7. Classes fill up fast, so sign-up early!
