Security upgrades considered for Rock County Courthouse

(Gazette photo)  Security upgrades for the Rock County Courthouse may not be as straight forward as thought.  Around 20 people showed up for the Rock County Board meeting last night to argue against proposed changes to Upper Courthouse Park as part of security upgrade plans.  One option would move the security screening station to the main lobby of the courthouse and include a separate entrance for employees.  It would cost the county $2.32 million.  The other option would cost $6.54 million and would include the same security measures as the first, but the east parking structure would be demolished and replaced with an on-grade parking lot.  A board member did suggest going back to the architecture firm that designed the security proposals, and asking for an amended option that minimizes the impact to Upper Courthouse Park.  A county committee will discuss design plans when it meets next Tuesday.
