The Janesville Patriotic Society is assessing the cost of damage to one of the monuments in the Veteran’s Plaza of Traxler Park. Society President Tom Stahura says someone broke off the rifle and helmet from the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial bronze statue. Stahura says the repair costs could be in the thousands. He’s hoping it’s possible to simply solder or weld back together, but is concerned the entire statue might need to be removed to be repaired. The parks department notified the Patriotic Society the vandalism likely occurred Sunday night.
