More scams preying on Janesville area residents

scam-alert-2

Janesville police are sounding the alarm of more scams working their way through the area. Sergeant Aaron Ellis says the IRS phone scam, this time a year, shouldn’t be much of a surprise.  Ellis says this scam typically threatens arrest if you don’t pay a fee or fine using a prepaid cash card.  The sergeant says another scam involves the promise of a large inheritance through a fictitious bank. This scam could be by phone or show up in the mail and asks for taxes to be prepaid. Authorities advise never volunteering personal information or payment methods unless independently confirming the validity of any unsolicited call or inquiry.
