The Janesville Board of Education approves the $140 million 2015-2016 budget and sets the tax levy in a pair of unanimous votes.
The balanced budget includes 1.27 percent drop in spending and a 2.2 percent increase in the tax rate.
The 2015-16 budget is $140.4 million, a decrease of 1.27 percent from last year's budget.
The district's portion of a Janesville resident's tax bill on a $100,000 house would rise from $937 last year to $957 this year.
Commissioner Bill Sodemann was absent from the vote Tuesday evening.
