Beloit Schools phase out SMART boards

SMART boards are becoming a thing of the past in Beloit.

The Beloit Board of Education unanimously approved the purchase of 60 Apple TV systems at their regular meeting on Tuesday.

The total cost of the Apple TV's is just under $70,000, compared to the over $300,000 the same amount of SMART boards would cost.

The Apple TV systems will outfit new classrooms Gaston and Cunningham Elementary Schools, McNeel Intermediate School, the new fitness center at Beloit Memorial High School.  13 will also be use to replace failing SMART boards around the district.

The district will continue utilizing the existing SMART boards until they become unusable, and then they'll be replaced by Apple TV's.

Apple TV allows users to stream content from their iPad or other Apple devise wirelessly to a flat screen television.
