When it comes to ACT college readiness scores, Janesville Superintendent of Schools Karen Schulte says the district must do a better job. Janesville's composite score on the ACT is 21.5. That is an improvement of .1 from last year, but still .6 below the state average. The district has a plan intended to produce steady improvement in the scores. One element is to offer algebra in the eighth grade, rather than freshman year of high school. Another part of the plan involves testing. The district plans to phase out the Measures and Academic Progress tests in favor of the ACT's Education Planning and Assessment System tests.
