A 28-year-old Janesville man, accused of bludgeoning a a woman in the head with a hammer, waives his right to a preliminary hearing Monday morning before Rock County Court Commissioner Stephen Meyer. A criminal complaint states Michael C. Hadley attacked the woman early Monday afternoon October 12th. She told authorities she believed she survived because her two-year-old daughter yelled out. Hadley's defense attorney says his client is pleading not guilty by reason of mental disease. Police say a test at the hospital after the incident indicated Hadley's blood-alcohol-level was .43, or more than five-times the legal limit for driving. Hadley is currently being held in the Rock County Jail on a large cash bond.
