Shine CEO suggests bright future for Janesville

The CEO of a high-tech start-up company, endears himself to hundreds of Janesville area business leaders. Dr. Gregory Piefer of SHINE Medical Technologies wowed the crowd of 350 during the Rock Regional Business Expo luncheon Thursday. Piefer is planning to build a medical isotope manufacturing facility near the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport. He sited examples of excellent cooperation from the city in helping establish his business. Heexpects the city will enjoy the dividends of that support, considering the facility will not be a cheap one, and the property taxes alone should make it up to the city. Other benefits, the jobs created will total 150 and annual revenue will be around $200 million by 2017. Piefer says he's surprised to be categorized as "big business" in the media, considering he's a start-up offering a new way to produce isotopes for medical imaging to reduce worldwide supply interruptions and reduce radioactive waste. Production is expected to begin in 2016.
