St. Mary's Janesville Hospital breaks ground on expansion

To make it easier for patients to get complete cancer care closer to home, St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital is expanding both in size and the amount of services offered.

On Tuesday, October 13, we began breaking ground on a new addition. New radiation oncology services will be housed in a single-story, 8,750-square-foot area that will be built out from the existing infusion area at the rear of the Dean Clinic side of campus, with views of the healing garden.

“We are really excited about the new services this expansion allows us to bring to our patients,” says St. Mary’s Hospital President Kerry Swanson. “They include a state-of-the-art linear accelerator (LINAC) called the True Beam. It combines both imaging and treatment technologies in a single machine that delivers high energy radiation therapy with pinpoint accuracy.”

The hospital also will be adding computerized tomography (CT simulation) to better aid in planning patient treatment, as well as additional clinical specialists to its team of highly-trained medical personnel. The goal is to offer the new radiation oncology services to patients by the summer of 2016, according to Swanson.

“We hope the community shares our excitement,” Swanson says. “This expansion is part of our ongoing commitment to adapt and expand to the changing health needs of our community, and embody our mission to provide exceptional health care for all.”

St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital has retained the services of Erdman, the integrated healthcare design-build firm that designed the Janesville campus. The new addition is intended to complement the existing design of the building, and will include additional parking for the campus.
