Virtually no chance for the General Motors plant in Janesville ever to open again as it once was. A tentative agreement between the United Auto Workers and GM moves the plant off a list of properties under moratorium from closure or sale. The plant had been idled in 2009 and has sat empty on "stand-by" ever since. UAW national leaders approved the proposed contract with GM Wednesday. It includes raises, health care imporovements and signing bonuses for workers. The Janesville plant originally opened in 1919, and reached peak employment in the 1970's.
