Milton Schools consider sports complex

The Milton School District is considering working a deal with the city to build a regional sports complex.  The district would create parking spaces and a pick-up and drop-off area near East Elementary School  in exchange for a land deal involving 22 acres in the city's Crossroad Business Park east of the Highway 26 by-pass.  City officials say they're a little short of money for the parking, and traffic improvements near the school would ease safety concerns.  The district and city own about 130 acres of parkland throughout the city, but it's use for sports is often crowded.  District Communications Supervisor Jerry Schuetz says a sports complex could ease this congestion and be a boom to the local economy.  The district plans to present it's plan at a city meeting in the next few weeks.  The price tag for the sports complex could run around $4 million.
