The Beloit Fire Department may be feeling the strain of an ever increasing demand for emergency responses. Beloit Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Murray says crews were called out for a record 5000 runs this year. Murray says the high number of calls put a real strain on the three-station, 60-member department. An increase in medical calls is the biggest reason for the high number. He does say the ambulance service is breaking even because calls for service are typically charged to insurance or an individual.
