Seven candidates are vying for three seats on the Janesville City Council. The candidates filing papers successfully by Tuesday's deadline include 69-year-old Jim Farrell, who was first elected to the council in 2012. He currently sits on the audit committee and Hedberg Public Library Board of Directors. 62-year-old council member Rich Gruber was appointed last March. He's a board member for The Southwest Wisconsin Workforce Development Board, HealthNet, and Rock University High School. 19-year-old newcomer Jens Jorgensen studies public administration at U-W Rock County. 44-year-old Steve Knox is a senior buyer for Sub-Zero Group and serves on the City Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee. 62-year-old Billy Mccoy is a retired General Motors employee, most recently known for his local political activism. 64-year-old Paul Williams served on the council from 2000 to 2008 before stepping down. He drives truck for Wurtz Towing. 36-year-old Spener Zimmerman recently moved to Janesville and works for Presidential Limousine Service. A primary in February is possible, but that's up the current council.
