VIDEO: Speaker of the House visits Craig High School in Janesville

Monday, February 15, 2015, from 1:25 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Joseph A. Craig High School welcomed Alumnus Paul Ryan, Speaker of the House of Representatives for the United States of America. Mr. Ryan presented a message to students at an all-school education assembly. Local State Representatives and Senators were invited along with, school district staff and Board of Education Commissioners. Special music was be provided by the Craig High School A Capella Choir and the Jazz Ensemble.

Born and raised in the community of Janesville, Paul Ryan is a fifth-generation Wisconsin native. Mr. Ryan is a graduate of the Craig High School Class of 1988. During his high school career, Mr. Ryan was Junior Class President, a Student Council School Board Representative, and a member of the soccer and the track and field teams. He obtained a Bachelor of the Arts degree in economics and political science with a minor in foreign affairs from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. 

Prior to his recent election as Speaker of the House of Representatives and continued service as Congressman for Wisconsin’s First District, Mr. Ryan served as an aide to former U.S. Senator Bob Kasten; an economic adviser and speech writer for the former vice-presidential candidate Jack Kemp and former Director of the Office of the National Drug Control Policy, Bill Bennett; and, as legislative director for U.S. Senator Sam Brownback. He most recently served as Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, the House Budget Committee and the Joint Economic Committee in Washington, D.C.
