Janesville’s new fire chief is working to meet the demands of an ever increasing number of calls for paramedic service. Chief Randy Banker says he’s shuffled around personnel to staff a 5th ambulance whenever possible. Banker says without additional funds to pay for more personnel, vacations and sick leave will have an impact on the plan. Currently the Janesville Fire Department responds to an average of 27 calls a day for paramedic service. The chief says it’s already increased four-percent compared to the same time period last year. He says the 5th unit is stationed at the Crosby Avenue Fire House is already seeing a lot of action. He attributes part of the increased need to an aging population.
