The Beloit Police and Fire Commission and the City Council butt heads on who will be the Chief of Police.
PFC Chairperson Marty Densch says that the commission chose interim Rockford Police Chief Patrick Hoey in a three to two consensus vote, and that the City manager sent a letter to Hoey.
Densch says the City Council wasn’t in agreement with the choice and asked the PFC to reconsider the decision.
Densch says unfortunately the PFC doesn’t have any policies in place that allow them to rescind the letter that was sent to Hoey, and therefore it’ in the City Council’s hands.
A special PFC meeting that had been scheduled for Thursday night was canceled.
The other finalists for Police Chief are Beloit’s current interim chief David Zibolski, and Branson, Missouri Police Chief Kent Crutcher.
Zibolski has been leading the Beloit Police Department since last June when former Police Chief Norm Jacobs was first placed on paid leave over leadership issues. He later accepted a settlement to retire.
