The FBI is warning of a new phone scam targeting families of college students. An official sounding phone call, threatening arrest of a college student for some offense, is just the latest scam according to Janesville Police Crime Prevention Officer Chad Sullivan. The first red flag according to Sullivan, is the threat is made by phone. He says government agencies send information through the mail. The second warning it’s a scam comes from a request for personal information, or demands money be sent by cash car, cashiers check or automated transfer. Sullivan suggests simply hanging up, and if there’s further concerns attempt to verify any information independently.
