A familiar sight at the Rock County 4-H Fairgrounds could soon be gone, but it’s not going too far.
The Rock County Historical Society is seeking a conditional use permit to re-locate the Frances Willard Schoolhouse to the historical society campus on North Jackson Street.
The 432 square foot schoolhouse was constructed in 1853 at the present-day location of Cedar Crest retirement community on South River Road, and was moved briefly to the historical society campus, before being re-located to the Fairgrounds in 1972.
The historical society feels that re-locating the schoolhouse again will allow visitors to more conveniently experience each of the historic buildings and sites in a single location.
The Janesville Plan Commission will hold a pubic hearing before considering approval of the conditional use permit at 6:30 Monday night.
