Janesville Plan Commission approves moving Frances Willard Schoolhouse

The Janesville Plan Commission holds a public hearing on a request to move the Frances Willard Schoolhouse from the Rock County 4-H Fairgrounds to the Rock County Historical Society campus on North Jackson Street.
The project requires a conditional use permit because the proposed location on the historical society campus is less than 25 feet from the east property line.
The idea behind the move is to allow visitors to view all of the historical society sites in a single location.
The 1850’s schoolhouse has been located at the Fairgrounds since 1972. It’s been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1977.
After holding the public hearing, the Plan Commission approved the request in a unanimous vote Monday night.
