At least one member of the Janesville Board of Education is encouraging employees who are in domestic partnerships to get married.
Commissioner Bill Sodemann says the board will consider discontinuing to offer health insurance to employee’s domestic partners.
Sodemann says the change would apply to both same sex and opposite domestic partnerships.
Currently six employees utilize health insurance coverage for their domestic partner though the district.
Sodemann says the when the School Board first approved extending healthcare coverage to the domestic partners of employees, same sex marriage was not recognized in the State of Wisconsin.
If approved by the school board when they meet Tuesday evening at 5:30, employees would have six months before the change went into affect.
