Speed plays a factor in a Monday night motorcycle crash.
Wednesday Janesville Police identified the victim as 23-year-old Steven R. Nimtz of Durand, Illinois.
An officer told The Gazette he had just seen Nimtz perform a wheelie on the bike on East Milwaukee Street and was going to pull him over when he sped away, turning north onto Morningside Drive.
Witnesses said the bike hit a curb near Green Forest Run, and then hit an embankment and flew into a tree.
Nimtz was taken to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville, where he died from his injuries the next morning.
Nimtz, who was riding a Suzuki sport bike, did not have a valid driver’s license.
