Janesville police looking for suspect who scammed California college student

Local law enforcement hope the public can identify a suspect who’s accused of scamming a University of Southern California student out of $2,700.
Janesville Police Detective Chris Buescher says the student got a call from someone claiming to be from the Los Angeles Police Department saying they needed to wire money to three locations in order to satisfy an IRS debt.
The student wired a total of $2,700 to retail stores in Janesville, Beloit and Delavan, and a male suspect was caught on camera picking the money up.
Buescher says he’s heard of plenty of IRS scams over the years, but it’s the first time he’s seen the criminals pick up their ill-gotten gains in Janesville.
