I-39/90 expansion near Janesville to begin two years early

Construction on a four-mile segment of I-39/90 near Janesville is being accelerated with help from the federal government.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced Wednesday)that the U.S. DOT will provide $40 million in grant funding for the I-39/90 expansion project in Dane and Rock Counties, in addition to existing state and federal funds.
This means the planned expansion of a 4 mile segment of the freeway between Avalon Road and US 14 from four to eight lanes will begin two years early, in 2018.
The grant is part of the U.S. DOT’s Fostering Advancements in Shipping and Transportation for the Long-term Achievement of National Efficiencies, or FASTLANE program.
The $40 million grant currently sits in a 60-day congressional review phase and is expected to be formally awarded this fall.
