The Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection is warning residents of south central Wisconsin, including Rock County, to be on the lookout for phony credit card readers at gas stations. The DATCP says the “skimming” devices can be installed by crooks externally over the regular card reader, or internally. Consumers are warned to look-out for loose card readers, or broken security seals. More than a dozen such “skimmers” have been found in the area, including at least three in Rock County.
