Milton councilwoman filed complaint against mayor and council

A Milton City Councilwoman is fighting an ethics complaint filed against her by the council.  The council voted in July to file the complaint against Nancy Lader, saying she revealed details of a closed session meeting in a letter published in the Edgerton Reporter.  Lader countered this week by filing her own open meetings complaint accusing the mayor and council of providing “inadequate advance notice” of the meeting in question.  During the closed session in May of last year, Mayor Anissa Welch criticized Lader for talking in private with a banker who was helping fund library renovations and a road maintenance project.  Lader had publicly expressed her desire for that money to instead support a new fire station.  Lader wrote in the complaint, although she stated something during the meeting with the banker, along the lines it might be helpful if the banker misplaced the funding paperwork for a couple weeks, it was always clear during the meeting she was expressing her personal opinion and not acting on behalf of the city or council as a whole.  The council’s next meeting is set for Tuesday.
