One person dies in a town of Newark house fire, and investigators are looking for the homeowner’s pickup truck.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office says the body was found in the basement after the house collapsed, so it wasn’t clear where it body was when the fire started.
An autopsy is planned for Wednesday morning.
The cause of the fire that destroyed the house at 10316 W. Highway 81 west of Beloit is undetermined.
Authorities were in the early stages of their investigation and weren’t sure if foul play is involved.
The homeowner’s red 1997 pickup truck is missing.
Firefighters from several area departments responded after the fire was reported just after 6:00 Tuesday morning.
The single-story ranch home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. The structure is considered a total loss.
