The Janesville Fire Department has a new truck. Deputy Chief Jim Ponkauskas says the new truck is a Rescue/Pumper manufactured by Pierce in Appleton. Ponkauskas says it carries equipment to deal with a variety of emergencies including fires, traffic crashes, and industrial accidents. He says the new $650,000 truck replaces a 16-year-old vehicle with 160,000 miles. The old truck was scheduled to be replaced and will be put into reserve. Ponkauskas says the new Rescue-Pumper will get a lot of work next year with the department expecting to respond to some ten-thousand calls split between the city’s five fire stations.
