A more than $2 an hour drip in Rock County’s living wage could be a blessing for businesses looking to make use of the City of Janesville’s tax incremental financing incentives.

Economic Development Director Gale Price says in 2013 the Massachusetts Institute of Technology reported that number was $18.50 an hour, but by June of this year it had changed to $16.03.

Price says it was discovered that the original number was caused by a programming error with the M-I-T website and that an hourly wage of $18.50 was more in line with the cost of living in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Price says the updated living wage lowers the threshold by which employers can receive incentives for creating jobs.
