A 17-year-old Beloit boy is facing charges after police say he was caught with a gun at school. Beloit School District spokesman Brian Leaf says a school security officer Wednesday smelled marijuana on a student and found the gun. Police arrested Nehemiah Evans on charges including possession of a firearm in a school zone, possession of a weapon by a person under 18, and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver in a school zone. As a precaution district officials searched the backpacks of students at they arrived Thursday. Leaf says the searches, and a soft lock-down, were in response to rumors on social media, and not necessarily the gun arrest.
