The City of Beloit Water Resources Division is reminding its customers to always be on the alert for potential scams or other illegal activity.
While officials are not aware of any current utility scam attempts against residents or small businesses, to avoid being tricked in a utility scam, please remember the following:
• The Beloit Water utility will contact you by mail if your account is overdue and your service is at risk of being terminated.
• If a caller demands a utility payment by prepaid debit card or wire transfer, it is a scam.
• Scammers can manipulate your caller ID display to show Beloit Water Utility’s name or number when they call.
• If you are unsure of the status of your account, contact your service provider using the number listed on your recent water bill.
