The Rock County Medical Examiner’s Office releases the name of the man killed in the wrong way crash on I-39/90 early Saturday morning that closed the major cross-country route for more than seven hours.
27-year-old Jacob Wiebel of Rockton, Illinois died from injuries he sustained when he drove his Toyota Camry northbound in the southbound lanes of traffic and struck a semi just after 4:30 in the morning near the town of Turtle.
The semi caught fire and it took crews hours to properly deal with the flammable methanol and hydrogen peroxide the trailer was carrying in sub zero termperatures.
The operator of the semi was able to escape the accident without serious injury.
The interstate re-opened just after noon Saturday.
