Milton Schools referendum planned

Milton School District voters can expect another facilities referendum.  The board approved a lengthy motion at its meeting Monday night to recommend a referendum within the next six months, establishing a midsummer timeline.  The motion also tasked district administration with finding ways to reduce building costs and providing more specifics about the future use of existing facilities.  The school board has spent the last two months testing the waters for a spring referendum after an $87 million proposal to construct a new high school and make other facility improvements failed in November.  Board members Monday night agreed the issue of overcrowding was not going away anytime soon and said waiting too long would only make the solution more expensive.  But getting a referendum question on the April ballot proved too unrealistic since the board would have needed to finalize terms within the next two weeks.
