A Janesville Police Officer gears up for more training to deal with domestic violence. Even though the Janesville Police Department already has a well established Domestic Violence Intervention Team, members continue to look for additional training. Team Leader Sergeant Brian Vaughn says he’s pleased the department has won a coveted scholarship funded by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Woman. Vaughn says veteran officer Laurie Valley will attend the 2017 International Conference on Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, and Systems Change. Vaughn says Janesville’s program appears to be making a real difference, and members have already begun to share what they’ve learned with other interested law enforcement agencies. Departments were chosen for the scholarship based in part on their demonstrated self-initiative, level of responsibility for sexual assault investigation, and potential impact of improving skills in this area.
