Summer referendum could be good for Milton Schools

Milton School District taxpayers may have to foot the bill for a special election if a spending referendum is asked this summer.  The Milton School Board last week opted not to put another facilities referendum on the April ballot and instead floated the idea of a special election.  An 87-million dollar question narrowly failed in November.  A 2014 study by the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance shows referendums have a higher success rate when held in months without general or primary elections.  Taxpayers Alliance Research Director Dale Knapp says voter turnout in special elections is usually lower, and therefore easier for support groups to mobilize.  Officials estimate a special election would cost about $25-thousand.
