(Gazette photo) One person is dead after a house fire in downtown Janesville. Police say the call at 603 S. Main St. came in about 8:00 o’clock Sunday night. First responders found a fully engulfed house fire with one person trapped. Officials say police attempted a rescue at a second floor balcony. Firefighters later located a deceased person. Residents told a Gazette reporter there were six people living in the building. Janesville fire investigators, the police department’s detective bureau and the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office are conducting a joint investigation.
