A new look for some old neighborhoods is finally complete in Beloit. City Planning and Building Director Drew Pennington says two types of signs now mark the community’s different historic districts. Pennington says historical preservation is important to a community for both its economic well being and heritage. Beloit’s historic areas include the Bluff Street Historic District, Merrill Street Historic District, and Near East Side Historic District. Street sign toppers and rectangular markers will not identify these areas. Pennington says a grant from Visit Beloit and a generous donation from Fairbanks Morse, helped make this most recent development possible.
