Milton school officials say the need for remedial education for graduates attending UW Colleges does not reflect the district’s quality of education. Gazette reporter Jim Dayton has learned, from a UW system report, a large percentage of Milton grads need remedial help in college. The report shows more than 20%t of graduates required remedial math classes and more than 14% remedial English. School officials tell Dayton the report lacks the specificity to draw conclusions about the district’s curriculum or academic standards. Milton is currently in the midst of a large, district-wide curriculum update in math, literacy, science, and writing, but school officials say the UW report won’t factor into the update because it lacks specifics.
