Several dozen protesters descend on Congressman Paul Ryan’s constituent office in downtown Janesville. Melissa Byrne, with the national women’s advocacy group UltraViolet, led the gathering with the hopes of gaining the Republican’s ear. Byrne claims Ryan no longer responds to constituents. Among other things, the protesters chanted “Hey-Hey, Ho-Ho, Ryan’s Got to Go”, and carried placards reading “Resist”, “Mr. Speaker-Speak Up for the People”, and “Equality and Justice for All”. They also delivered more than 80-thousand postcard size notes to his office. Although the mostly out-of-town group wasn’t able to make an appointment with the Speaker of the House, they were able to establish a contact within his constituent office. They were eventually escorted out of the Old Towne Mall by police.
