DNA leads to the arrest of a 53-year-old Janesville man in connection with a sexual assault that happened almost 17 years ago.
Janesville Police say Kelly L. Baxter was convicted last year of fourth degree sexual assault of a child. In accordance with state law, his DNA was submitted to the State Crime lab database.
Earlier this year Janesville Police were notified that Baxter’s DNA matched up with a case that detectives investigated in April of 2000.
The case involves a 78-year-old woman who was raped during the early morning hours in her home on the 900 block of Sutherland Avenue.
Baxter was taken into custody Wednesday at the Janesville Police Department on suspicion of second degree sexual assault and burglary.
Baxter is due in Rock County Court at 3:00 Thursday afternoon.
