Milton schools make a sports facility deal

The Varsity Lanes bowling alley in Milton will be seeing some sports action again.  The school board Monday night made a deal to use the 13,000 square foot building as a temporary indoor athletic facility.  Milton’s baseball and softball teams will likely use the vacant facility the most, but golf, soccer, and track could also use the building.  The old bowling alley is withing a few blocks of the high school.  The district will be required to pay for overhead costs including utilities and property taxes, but not rent.  The agreement will actually run the rest of the year, unless the district holds a special referendum election this summer or fall.  Voters rejected an $87 million proposal to build a new high school and make other facility upgrades last November.
