Rifle salute draws attention to Beloit gun ordinance

The Beloit City Council is being asked to take a look at it’s gun ordinance after it prevented the traditional rifle volley from being fired at the recent funeral of a veteran.
City Council President David Luebke says ordinance allows for the gun salute in locations other than cemeteries with permission from the police chief.
Luebke says in the most recent incident, it was a matter of safety. The requested location was next to a highway so the police department asked that it be moved to a nearby park.
A group of citizens turned out to the City Council meeting Monday night to share their concerns.
